SCALe INFO DAY at UiTM Explores Talent Development and Green Procurement for Smart Cities
On August 16, 2024, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) successfully hosted a hybrid SCALe INFO DAY at the Sarawak Multimedia Authority Meeting Room, bringing together 39 participants for a dynamic exchange on smart city development, talent needs, and sustainable innovation. The event showcased key outputs from the SCALe project while fostering dialogue on how academic programs and professional training can better support smart city implementation in Malaysia and the wider ASEAN region.
The session began with welcoming remarks, followed by a detailed presentation on the ERASMUS+ SCALe Project, introducing participants to its objectives, strategic vision, and regional relevance. This was followed by a focused discussion on the Emerging Smart City Professions and Skills, based on findings from the project’s Needs Analysis and Gap Assessment (WP1). This segment addressed the crucial role of upskilling and the alignment of talent development with smart infrastructure and logistics initiatives.
A key session on Challenges and Problem Solving emphasized the importance of innovation and design thinking in addressing urban development challenges. Discussions also touched on the foundational knowledge required by implementers to effectively utilize SCALe’s micro-course curriculum in supporting smart city strategies.
The in-person component featured an insightful presentation by Sr Ahmad Faiz Abdul Rashid on Green Procurement in Sustainable Smart Cities. He stressed the role of green procurement in sustainable urban planning and introduced participants to the SCALe micro-courses, designed to build targeted competencies aligned with sustainable smart city frameworks.
This INFO DAY was an important milestone in building awareness and engagement with SCALe’s mission, reinforcing UiTM’s commitment to developing the skills and knowledge essential for smart city transformation across the region.
